Ukrainian military target satellite. Prototype ABM radar target; supported developmental experiments for ABM systems. Radar calibration satellite built by Yuzhnoye, Russia. Launched 1962 - 1964.

Status: Operational 1962. First Launch: 1962-06-30. Last Launch: 1964-02-27. Number: 4 . Gross mass: 355 kg (782 lb).

Developed by V M Kovtunenko at OKB-586. DS-type control-test complexes were used for radar tests of the PVO (Soviet Air Defense Forces). As a result of flight test of the DS-P1 in 1962 the practical use of this method was shown. The DS-P1 spacecraft used solar cells for the first time in a Yuzhnoye satellite. The cells were arranged around a dodecahedron that enclosed and was rigidly connected to the main sealed container portion of the satellite..
