Penguin
Russian anti-zero-G suit, tested 1975. Prophylactic Body-Loading Suit, in use from 1978-; looked like the standard Russian blue in-flight suit, but had additional elastic bands and pulleys that created artificial force against which the body could work.

Status: tested 1975. Gross mass: 330 kg (720 lb). Height: 2.96 m (9.71 ft). Diameter: 0.28 m (0.91 ft). Span: 1.40 m (4.50 ft).

This ameliorated the deterioration of muscles and bones that occurs in long-term zero gravity. The Penguin suit was routinely worn during all long-term flights.

Family: Space Suits. Country: Russia. Agency: Zvezda Design Bureau. Bibliography: 376.
