Japanese communications satellite. Sakura. This Medium-capacity Communications Satellite for Experimental Purposes was a spin stabilized geostationary communications satellite. Communication satellite built by NASDA, later TSCJ for Mitsubishi Electric (MELCO) (prime); Ford Aerospace (bus), Japan. Launched 1977.

Status: Operational 1977. First Launch: 1977-12-15. Last Launch: 1977-12-15. Number: 1 . Gross mass: 676 kg (1,490 lb).

Characteristics of satellite: Weight approximately 340 kg at an early stage in orbit, configuration: cylindrical, height 3.48 m, diameter 2.18m, Expected life more than three years. Launch vehicle Delta 2914.
