American manned lunar rover. Study 1963. The Boeing Lunar Exploration Systems lunar rover design of November 1963 was for a multipurpose rover with a range of 480 km with a crew of 2 on a 8 day traverse. The cabin had a volume of 4.95 cubic meters.
Status: Study 1963. Gross mass: 2,920 kg (6,430 lb).
Variants studied included numerous subsystem module configurations. All had a 37 day total stay capability and were designed for both exploration and construction tasks. Variants included:
- V-1 (AMF).
- V-1 (GMA).
- V-1 (GMB).
- V-1 Plus V-2 trailer. 3820 kg total mass. Not much data given on the V-2 system. Some thoughts on 11 metric ton payloads. Extended exploration and surface capability.
