Tu Shoue

Specialist in general design of rocket. Born in Wuxing, Zhejiang Province. Graduated from the Department of Aeronautics, Tsinghua University in 1940. Received M.Sc. from MIT, USA in 1943. Research professor and senior technological advisor, China Aerospace Corporation.

Tu studied and designed a series of medium- and long-range ballistic missiles and carrier rockets for satellites. In 1988, he supported the proposal to develop the Long-March 2E rocket by using four strap-on boosters and the tested technology of Long-March rockets to increase the weight of the low earth orbit payload to nearly 9 tons. On July 16, 1990, Long-March 2E was successfully launched.

He was elected Member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1991.
