French surface-to-air missile. Development of this first French surface-to-air missile began in 1948. The acronym PARCA stood for 'Self-propelled Radio-controlled Anti-Aircraft Projectile'. Flight tests began in 1954 and the system was deployed on a limited basis in 1958.
