American physicist, Nobel prize winner, did early research on cosmic rays, built Caltech into preeminent engineering school.

Robert A. Millikan was a Nobel Prize-winning physicist at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech). Best known for his research on cosmic rays, he also built Caltech into a world-class educational and scientific institution which he presided over until his retirement in 1946.
