American chemist, associated with the development of the atomic bomb, and later an advocate of banning nuclear weapons.

Born: 1900-11-18. Died: 1982-12-01.

George B. Kistiakowsky was a pioneering chemist at Harvard University, associated with the development of the atomic bomb, and later an advocate of banning nuclear weapons. He served as science advisor to President Eisenhower from July 1959 to the end of the administration. He later served on the advisory board to the United States Arms Control and Disarmament Agency from 1962 to 1969.
