Hoelker, Rudolf Franz Maria
German-American expert in guided missiles during WW2. Member of the German rocket team, arrived in America under Project Paperclip on 1945.11.16 aboard the Argentina from La Havre.

Born: 1912-03-16. Died: 2003-06-14. Birth Place: Halle.

Hoelker was born in Halle in Westphalia, Germany, and studied mathematics, physics and mathematical logic at the University of Muenster, where he also taught and received his doctorate. He worked with von Braun on the German rocket program at Peenemuende. Arriving in the United States on 16 November 1945 aboard the Argentina from La Havre, as part of the Rocket Team. He rose to chief of the astrodynamics and guidance theory division in the aero-astrodynamics laboratory. In 1965 he became senior scientist at the NASA electronics research center in Cambridge, Massachusetts., and retired in 1973. In the months before his death he worked privately on the mathematical problems of a redesign of the space shuttle for a safe re-entry and landing.
