Missile and carrier rocket expert. Born in Nanchang, Jiangxi Province. Graduated from the College of Ordnance Engineering in 1946. Professor and consultant, Science and Technology Commission, China Aerospace Corporation.
In his early carrier, Xie was engaged in the research of armory technology. He developed successfully the first generation rocket launcher and anti-tank rocket. After 1957, he led and took part in the research of 4 sorts of strategic weapons and 2 sorts of carrier rockets. He was the chief designer of ground-ground medium- and short-range missiles and LM-3 launch vehicle. He played important roles in the organization, instruction and policy-making to solve a series of key technological problems, such as the application of low temperature technology, control of longitude couple vibration (POGO) and the second start of engine under high-altitude agravic condition. All this has guaranteed the successful launch of Long March-3 carrier rocket and Asia-1 international communication satellite and has ushered China's rocket technology into the world advanced level. He participated in the development of medium- and short-range missiles. He was the chief of the coordinating group for the combination of missile technology and nuclear weapon technology, and successfully organized the combined tests of missile and nuclear weapon.
He was elected Member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1991.
