LC2 Chronology 1958 August 12 - 09:27 GMT - Launch Vehicle: Redstone. Redstone CC-51 FAILURE: Guidance system malfunction at 70 seconds which did not preclude subsequent system operations and successful mission accomplishment. Hardtack Orange Nuclear test Agency: USA. Apogee: 41 km (25 mi). Orange was a rocket-launched test of the W-39 warhead. Purpose was to measure the effects of high altitude nuclear explosions in order to design warheads for Nike-Zeus anti-ballistic missile system.
