The American Space-Based Radar system was to have replaced the US military's Airborne Warning and Control System (AWACS), Joint STARS (Surveillance, Targeting, and Attack Radar System), and Rivet Joint aircraft with satellites. Over-ambitious and over-budget, it was cancelled in the late 1990's.
