Japanese Manipulator Flight Demonstration payload contained in the shuttle bay. Demonstrated the performance of a robot arm similar to that later used on the Japanese portion of the ISS. The robot arm was operated by crew members in the Aft Flight Deck of the Shuttle Orbiter using hand controllers.
