Designer: Fiat-Avio. Gross Mass: 95,000 kg (209,000 lb). Empty Mass: 7,000 kg (15,400 lb). Propellants: Solid. Thrust(vac): 3,040.000 kN (683,410 lbf). Isp: 280 sec. Burn time: 107 sec. Diameter: 3.00 m (9.80 ft). Length: 7.50 m (24.60 ft). Chambers: 1. Chamber Pressure: 95.00 bar. Area Ratio: 16.00. Country: Italy. Status: In production. Vega's first stage, the P80 solid rocket motor, introduced advanced low-cost technologies that could be reused for future evolutions of Ariane-5 boosters. The new technologies mainly consist of: a 3 m diameter graphite epoxy filament wound case;
low density rubber for the internal insulation; low binder content and high aluminium percentage for the propellant (HTPB 1912); simplified nozzle architecture using low-cost and lighter carbon phenolic material; consumable casing for the igniter; and an electromechanical thrust vector control using lithium ion batteries.
