Location of North American Air Defense Command in the 1950's and 1960's until Cheyenne Mountain was completed.
Although no missiles were ever stationed at this former base located in Colorado Springs, it played a key role in the nation's air defense. During the 1950s and 1960s the base hosted the Continental Air Defense Command (CONAD) and successor North American Air Defense Command (NORAD) as well as the component Army Air Defense Command (ARADCOM).
