1969.09.19 - MSC reports that 136 flags of other nations were flown on Apollo 11

MSC replied to a query that 136 flags of other nations, the U.N. flag, and flags from each state and territory of the United States had been flown on Apollo 11.

The flags, measuring 10.16 cm x 15.24 cm and made of silkscreened rayon, were procured through available commercial sources. Vacuum packed and stowed in Beta cloth bags for flammability protection the flags were not removed from the containers during the flight. The American flag left on the surface of the moon would probably last for a considerable period, since the only deterioration expected would be from the solar wind.
