Nike air defense area, consisting of several Nike missile batteries to defend urban, industrial, and military targets from Soviet bomber attacks.
A Regular Army-manned Nike Hercules site at Council Bluffs contributed to the defense of Omaha; Headquarters, Strategic Air Command at Offutt AFB; and Atlas missile sites placed within the region. This battery, designated OF-10, remained active from 1960 until 1966.
