Bendix ALSS Rover

American manned lunar rover. Study 1965. The Bendix ALSS Payloads lunar rover design of June 1965 had a range of 400 km with a crew of 2 on a 14 day traverse. A variety of configurations were studied in detail.

Variants studied included:

• 4WNF-3 with 32 cm obstacle capability. Horizontal airlock cabin 120 cm crevice capability. Systems rear-mounted. 4 wheels, non-folding, separate chassis. The cabin had a volume of 6.91 cubic meters.
• 4WNF-4 with 32 cm obstacle capability. Horizontal airlock cabin. 126 cm crevice capability. Systems side-mounted. 340 kg. 4 wheels, non-folding, integrated chassis. The cabin had a volume of 6.91 cubic meters.
• 4WNF-6 with 32 cm obstacle capability. Vertical airlock cabin. 126 cm crevice capability. Systems rear-mounted. 340 kg. 4 wheels, non-folding, separate chassis. The cabin had a volume of 8.33 cubic meters.
• 4WF-2 with 66 cm obstacle capability. Horizontal airlock cabin, 195 cm crevice capability. Systems rear mounted. 340 kg. 4 wheels, folding. The cabin had a volume of 7.05 cubic meters.
• 4WF-3, 62 cm obstacle capability, vertical airlock cabin, 185 cm crevice capability, systems rear-mounted, 340 kg. 4 wheels, folding. The cabin had a volume of 8.38 cubic meters.
• 4TNF- l with 76 cm obstacle capability, horizontal airlock cabin, 42 cm crevice capability, systems side mounted, 340 kg. 4 wheels, non-folding, separate chassis. The cabin had a volume of 8.92 cubic meters.
• 6WF-Z with 92 cm obstacle capability, horizontal airlock cabin, 105 cm crevice capability, systems side mounted. Considered difficult to unload from LEM Truck. 6 wheels, folding. The cabin had a volume of 5.66 cubic meters.
• 4WNF-1 with 31 cm obstacle capability. horizontal airlock cabin, 24 cm crevice capability, systems side mounted. Ingress/egress considered difficult. 4 wheels, non-folding, separate chassis. The cabin had a volume of 5.95 cubic meters.
