Tibere

Launch vehicle · France

Original archive entry. The text, images and links below are kept as they were written.

Tibere was an atmospheric re-entry test vehicle derived from the earlier Berenice. Development was authorized in 1965 to support the Electre re-entry experiment program. The first two stages were Stromboli motors of identical length. The third stage was the P.064 motor developed for the Diamant orbital launcher.

As with Berenice and Titus, four SEPR P167 stabilization rockets surrounded the first stage. The first two stages boosted the third stage and RV model to 150 km altitude. A Cassiopee attitude control system oriented the RV precisely before the P.064 accelerated the RV to high speed while descending from 130 to 60 km altitude. Although four Tibere were procured, only two were launched before the program was closed.
