General Secretary of Central Committee 1924-1953. Chairman of Council of Ministers 1941-1953. Stalin saw the development of nuclear weapons and rocketry as key to obtaining strategic parity with the United States. From 1946 until his death he vigorously pushed assimilation and deployment of weapons based on German rocket and aviation technology.
