Astronaut Career

Astronaut Group: Buran Group 1 - 1978. Inactive Entered space service: January 1979. Left space service: 12 December 1982. Cosmonaut training January 1979 - 1980. Buran test plot. Left cosmonaut corps in 1981, because he didn't believe that Buran would ever fly.

Deputy Director of GKNII (Flight Research Institute) of the Soviet Air Force. From 1999 scientific advisor to the commander of the Akhtubinsk Test Pilot Center.

Chirkin Chronology

1 December 1978 - Buran Cosmonaut Training Group 1 selected.. Experienced test pilots were selected to train for manned missions using the Buran space shuttle.
